Little Michael

Michael Anthony made his appearance to the world back in December. This little slugger is a mere 10 days old when he did his very first photo shoot and I must say, he was fully of expressions. He sported a darling little Los Angeles Dodger beanie with these two pom poms that were to die for. He slept for most of the session and woke up for brief moments and went right back to sleep.  He even gave me a very adorable “smile” when he was dreaming. He managed to sneak in a few screams, before heading back into la-la land. zzzzzzzz. This is part of my BABY’S FIRST collection which documents the baby’s first year of life. You can see the first post when he was in his mama’s tummy by clicking here. Stay tuned for his next batch of photos!:-)

Little Michael has so many cute faces. I love these adorable pics. : )

I have a new pet…

So, maybe it’s not really a pet. But, I found not one…but NINE of these in my backyard. What is it? A black fuzzy spiky caterpillar with red spots! It kinda freaked me out actually. But, then I had to get some photos of it so I could try to find out what it is on the internet. Come to find out, it’s a Mourning Cloak Butterfly Caterpillar. I’ll admit, photographing this insect was not easy and yes, there were a few screams.:-)Okay, there were a lot of screams. But, it eventually made it into a jar, in hopes of seeing it turn into a beautiful butterfly soon.:-)Stay tuned for it’s transformation. In Hawaiian, we call this a Pulelehua.

Yikes, it is weird looking, remember, the spikes are not good, it looks like it belongs to the underworld, it gives me the creeps, however, what beautiful shots and so clear.

Help Blackie find a home

I woke up yesterday and saw an email from a woman in North Carolina named Diana. My first reaction was it was one of those emails requesting money or one that told me I was entitled to a large sum, like $1,000,000.US dollars. You all know what I’m talking about.  :-) However, I kept reading and found out it was in fact about a woman who happens to love dogs and was seeking help. Diana was tagged in a photo on facebook of a 10 year old chow mix dog that was just dropped off and at the Downey Shelter in Los Angeles. The photo was of Blackie on the concrete looking out for his owners, which made her think of her own dog Rocky. She then arranged to have a rescue center pull him out of the shelter and take him to a rescue boarder called Top Dog Resort.  Blackie was neglected and his coat fully matted. She paid to have him groomed, which meant a full shave down and he has been at Top Dog Resort since January 12, 2011.

Diana is currently unemployed and has shelled out close to $1,000 trying to save this adorable dog. Here is a woman who lives in North Carolina and is saving a dog she has never met. Amazing. She found my blog post I did about a dog found, by the name of Popcorn. You can see that post by clicking here. She reached out to me to see if I would be interested in taking 4-5 photos of Blackie, so they can place him in a good and loving home. Being the dog lover I am, I could NOT refuse. It just so happened this weekend was my catch up weekend with no shoots or meetings, so I happily agreed. I took a spin out there, met Blackie and grabbed a few pics of him. He was a little camera shy, although he loves to have someone pet him. Adorable dog. If anyone can assist in finding him a home, please let me know. Diana, thank you for giving Blackie hope and thank you for contacting me. I hope Blackie will be in a safe and loving home soon.

Happy Sunday all…:-)

You did an awesome job of capturing Blackie’s essence. Thank you so much for going out of your way on your day off to help us find him a home. I can’t even believe how good these pictures are.

Thank you.

Is he good with other dogs? Small ones?

Diana Brogan - March 21, 2011 - 7:45 am

Hi Cheryl C.,
thanks for your inquiry. I am told by both the shelter and the boarding facility that Blackie is non-reactive/non-aggressive towards all other animals. He is “mellow with age!” That being said, he has slowed down and probably would not do well with a dog that wanted to come at him for play; maybe for fear he would knock him down or hurt his sore hips. I’m guessing about that. If you are close to San Fernando, you could go out and visit him and maybe bring your dog and see if they get along. I’m delighted you are interested. He is such a good boy and deserves a home. Let me know if there is anything else I can tell you about him. My phone number is 704-488-8143

Blackie was brought out of the kennel for me to photograph. He is very mellow and timid and loves to be next to someone. He enjoys it when someone pets his head and scratches behind his ears.

I hope Blackie will be in a loving home soon!

Jazmine | Headshot Photography | Ala Moana, Hawaii

Here are a few pics from a headshot photography session I did last weekend in Honolulu for Jazmine. I am offering a limited offer for any photography session (portrait, headshot, maternity, family, product, engagement, pet, corporate or newborn sessions) for $150, where 100% goes to Life Rolls On for the They Will Surf Again event on 4/30/11. This headshot session was for a darling little 10 year old named Jazmine. Her sweet and adorable personality made me wanna squeeze her because  she was so cute. Instead, we talked about her favorite person in the whole wide world…Justin Bieber!  The photos are headshot style and not my typical portraiture, so they have a little different feel to them and will be used to submit to  local modeling and talent agents in Hawaii.:-)We finished off at Ala Moana beach park where we had a little fun in the sand and grabbed a few pics with mom.

I have a few slots available if anyone is interested, let me know. It’s for a great cause and you can see the details by clicking here.

Wow! They are beautiful! Love, love, love!

One of my heroes…

This 3 year old will change your perception of life and open your eyes…just so you can see the world in a different light. Her courage, strength, determination and passion for life is beyond amazing. Plain and simple. She possesses qualities that are so admirable, it often leaves me speechless (which is a difficult task:-)). I will keep this post short and sweet and let you see for yourself. Please watch the short clip below by clicking play. She is one of my heroes for more reasons than one… and she just happens to be my niece. My dear Maile, you are my sunshine and my light. You make me a better person. I love you so much and am so proud of you. Thank you for spending an incredible day with my yesterday. You are the bestest! Thank you for being in my life….
