Get a FREE wedding with a celebrity planner on WEtv

I just got off the phone with Rachel from WEtv in New York.  WEtv is working on a new wedding series and is currently looking for couples living in Los Angeles who had some sort of mishap or accident happen on their wedding day. If they are chosen, WEtv will give them a brand spankin’ new wedding including a celebrity event planner. WOOT!  Luckily, I have been blessed to photograph weddings that went smooth as silk and no hiccups or disaster stories. Since I don’t have any direct referrals, I thought I’d do a quick little post for those that might know of someone that had some sort of pitfall on their wedding and live here in Los Angeles. Casting is going on right now and those interested should contact Rachel at IshTVCasting.Rachel@gmail.com.

Proof books by Gayla Elizabeth Photography

There are many options to view your photos from your wedding and while online proofs are a great way to share with friends and loved ones, often it makes it easier to look at your proofs in hand vs on a monitor. Especially when trying to pick your favorites and album selects. Going through hundreds and hundreds of images online can often be a little tedious and overwhelming.  It is for this reason I offer custom bound proof books for my clients.  While I also offer online proofs through my website www.gaylaelizabeth.com, proof books have become increasingly popular amongst my newlyweds. All images are printed and bounded beautifully in a custom hard cover and meant to last. It’s a great way to reference images, compare images, and quickly see multiple images at once… all while you are lying in bed or drinking your coffee in the morning.

Proof books are highly recommended to ALL clients as it makes designing albums much easier. Often, album design is near to impossible without one!

Some of my wedding collections include a proof book, however, it can also be purchased ala carte if desired!

What a great way to view your entire photo session. It’s a lot easier on the eyes than viewing and scrolling down the computer screen.

Terrific….

Love this idea!! It’s convenient and beautiful all in one package.

Halloween…yet no dress up :-(

Yup, no dress up for me this year. Halloween is just one of those “holidays” that I consider a blast and I look forward to it every year. I love the costumes, the candy, and all the other ghoulish things.  Normally, I decorate the house, setup a few of my “tricks”, bring out the fog machine,  dress up and randomly scare trick or treaters as they stroll up my driveway.  Every year I put a prime rib in the oven and have friends over to celebrate the night. Since I’ve been so busy with various projects over the last few weeks,  I had no time to setup, get a costume or do the Halloween thing, but I did manage to have a couple friends over and still make my traditional prime rib dinner.:-)After we ate, we took a stroll through my neighborhood and walked amongst the trick or treaters on our festive streets. My neighborhood is a great halloween area, lots of people drive in and flood the streets. One house in my neighborhood setup a grave yard; Barker’s Graveyard was filled with movie set lights, tombstones, skeletons, sound effects and all. Trick or treaters lined up around the block to walk through the graveyard and caused quite the backup. The local Police Dept actually had to block off the street to allow for the crowd, since it was flooded with people.  We walked around for over and hour and came back to eat dessert. My friends came witha guava, lilikoi, passion fruit chiffon cake from Kings Hawaiian Bakery in Torrance and boy was that yummers. You gotta love friends that come with food!:-)I hope everyone had a great Halloween and next year… I’ll be ready!

Jessica + Ben | Wedding Photography | The Victorian

The Victorian sits abroad Santa Monica’s ever trendy Main Street and was the perfect wedding venue choice for Jessica and Ben’s wedding. The brick walkway takes you into the hardwood floor 2-story mansion that has such a classic and vintage vibe. It’s overly romantic and a perfect setting for an indoor southern california wedding.

This wedding was filled with emotion.  Lots of smiles, laughter and tears.  Jessica’s sister, Julie was there to help Jessica get into her wedding gown; I could see the emotion from both girls and documented the tender moments.  The minute their father walked in and saw his stunning daughter, that was it.  His face went from being in awe to utter happiness in a matter of seconds. Julie was nearby to share in the moment and to share a few tears with her sister Jessica. These are the moments I live for…. beautiful and priceless moments that are documented and kept forever.

Jessica is quite the green girl… very eco friendly, so her very green shoes were…oh, so perfect. Loved them! Once she was dressed, it was time to do the first look; her soon to be husband, Ben waited calmly outside to see his beautiful bride.  You can just see the happiness and joy in both of their faces as they first saw each other. Just lovely. They decided to exchange their vows upstairs in the library of The Victorian, surrounded with a collection of books, flickering candlelight and a room full of friends and family. The ceremony was precious and again, filled with emotion. As Jessica said her wedding vows, her tender voice and words of love opened up the flood gates and the tears started to flow. It’s a good thing her bridal party came prepared with hankies, because the tears were a coming!  It was beautiful. Jessica’s mother was unable to attend, so in her absence, Jessica decided to put a beautiful boutique of purple flowers on the first chair to symbolize her presence. I looked at those flowers and knew her mom was there in spirit and thinking about her daughter’s big day.

Once the ceremony was complete, everyone headed downstairs and partied the night away with help from Lee Dyson from Hey Mister DJ. Rockin’ DJ… just love him!  :-). The reception/dining area had the finishing touches of Abby LaDuke from Something Blue, a Los Angeles Wedding Planning Company.  Instead of name place cards, Jessica chose a name place “tree” and guest names were printed on leaves and hung from the tree at the entrance. So fitting for Jessica. Cute little gift bags awaited all guests at each table with a beautiful saying:

Life is partly what we make of it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose. – Tennessee Williams

It was such an beautiful quote and it was obvious they have chosen a great life with amazing friends and loved ones. They had guests from Arizona, Utah, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, London and more.  It’s always wonderful to see many people travel from all over the world to watch two people begin their lives as one. It was another great wedding for a great couple.  Many thanks to the Stefan and Wibberley family for choosing me to document your special day. Much love to you all. xoxo

Hello! This is the bride, Jessica. Thank you for all the wonderful comments! (And I’m glad the green shoes are getting lots of love :-) I wish I had designed the dress to show them off more!) It truly was the most magical night and seeing all these wonderful photos just makes the day live on and on. Gayla was so awesome to have as a photographer, nothing felt forced or awkward, and she worked so quickly, making sure we were free to enjoy all the aspects of our wedding as much as possible. I couldn’t be happier with everything and both of us realize what amazing friends and families we have, the night was filled with love. Thank you Gayla for capturing it all! xo

Ruth + Alan | Wedding Photography | Central Union Church-Honolulu, Hawaii

Last week I traveled to Honolulu to photograph the wedding of Ruth and Alan at Hawaii’s Central Union Church, the same church that her daughter, model/actress Deborah Lin married actor James Gandolfini a couple years ago. While the wedding was full of Chinese culture from start to finish…chinese lanterns, Cheongsam gowns, a lion dance, fortune cookies, feng shui lollipops… I think the hand stitched jacket from Ruth’s Great-Grandmother was absolutely spectacular.

The wedding party included 1 best man, 1 Maid of Honor and 6 precious little ones that looked so cute!  Cute. Cute. Cute.  I enjoyed watching everyone get ready for the big affair, especially when it was time for the boys to get their makeup done.:-)Oh, it was ADORABLE. I always love capturing mother/daughter shots during the getting ready part of the day and while it was still a mother/daughter moment, this one was special, since the roles were reversed. Deborah helped her mother into her beautiful hand made Cheongsam gown that was tailored beautifully with white lace and jewels. It was exquisite.

Once everyone was ready, the Rolls Royce promptly arrived and chauffeured the bride and maid of honor to Central Union Church, where she awaited her knight in shining armor. I mean her TALL knight and shining armor. He is 6’6″ people… TALL.

The reception was to be held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Coral Ballrooms 1,2 & 3 to seat the 400+ guests. However, 3 days prior to the 10-17-10 reception, 1500+ union workers walked off the job and decided to go on a union strike. YIKES… now, that is a reason to stress a bride out. I mean having your venue go on strike 3 days before your wedding reception… COME ON!  Yeah, serious stress alert. However, Ruth and Alan continued in stride, the hotel guaranteed everything would be fine and it was. Everything came out perfectly. No hiccups what so ever. A 14-piece orchestra entertained guests throughout the evening. Hawaii’s radio and TV personality Kimo Kahoano was the MC for the event and introduced a few special guests:

  • members of the Society of Seven, who performed live
  • model/actress Deborah Lin, who gave a speech on behalf of her husband James Gandolfini (who was unable to attend due to filming)
  • Honolulu’s Mayor Peter Carlisle, who gave an entertaining speech and brought some laughter to the crowd

It was a beautiful classic, elegant wedding with great entertainment. I’d like to thank the Lin and Thompson family for including me in the festivities. Also, a big mahalo to Brian, Happy and my mom for all your help. Much blessings and love to you all.
