• Aloha and welcome to the blog

This is supposed to be where you can keep up with some of my latest work and see images and projects I am working on. However, I need to improve on keeping this blog somewhat current. Sometimes it looks like my blog is withering off to Never Never Land. Posting images and writing blog content is NOT one of my strengths, so please forgive me for not keeping you all up to date. I am often in Honolulu and Los Angeles shooting for some amazing people, pets and organizations. Feel free to shoot me an email at 105,110,102,111,64,103,97,121,108,97,101,108,105,122,97,98,101,116,104,46,99,111,109,46.moc.htebazilealyag@ofni

I love the artistry of photography and am ridiculously attracted to images that speak volumes with no text. I've photographed celebrities, entrepreneurs, artists, products, food, real estate, moms, dads, brides, grooms, babies, pets and more. If it exists, I will shoot it. Follow this blog for a mix of everything and feel free to visit my portfolio on the "official" photography site www.GaylaElizabeth.com.

Help Blackie find a home

I woke up yesterday and saw an email from a woman in North Carolina named Diana. My first reaction was it was one of those emails requesting money or one that told me I was entitled to a large sum, like $1,000,000.US dollars. You all know what I’m talking about.  :-) However, I kept reading and found out it was in fact about a woman who happens to love dogs and was seeking help. Diana was tagged in a photo on facebook of a 10 year old chow mix dog that was just dropped off and at the Downey Shelter in Los Angeles. The photo was of Blackie on the concrete looking out for his owners, which made her think of her own dog Rocky. She then arranged to have a rescue center pull him out of the shelter and take him to a rescue boarder called Top Dog Resort.  Blackie was neglected and his coat fully matted. She paid to have him groomed, which meant a full shave down and he has been at Top Dog Resort since January 12, 2011.

Diana is currently unemployed and has shelled out close to $1,000 trying to save this adorable dog. Here is a woman who lives in North Carolina and is saving a dog she has never met. Amazing. She found my blog post I did about a dog found, by the name of Popcorn. You can see that post by clicking here. She reached out to me to see if I would be interested in taking 4-5 photos of Blackie, so they can place him in a good and loving home. Being the dog lover I am, I could NOT refuse. It just so happened this weekend was my catch up weekend with no shoots or meetings, so I happily agreed. I took a spin out there, met Blackie and grabbed a few pics of him. He was a little camera shy, although he loves to have someone pet him. Adorable dog. If anyone can assist in finding him a home, please let me know. Diana, thank you for giving Blackie hope and thank you for contacting me. I hope Blackie will be in a safe and loving home soon.

Happy Sunday all…:-)

  • Cheryl Jewhurst - You did an awesome job of capturing Blackie’s essence. Thank you so much for going out of your way on your day off to help us find him a home. I can’t even believe how good these pictures are.

    Thank you.

  • Cheryl Chisholm - Is he good with other dogs? Small ones?

  • Diana Brogan - Hi Cheryl C.,
thanks for your inquiry. I am told by both the shelter and the boarding facility that Blackie is non-reactive/non-aggressive towards all other animals. He is “mellow with age!” That being said, he has slowed down and probably would not do well with a dog that wanted to come at him for play; maybe for fear he would knock him down or hurt his sore hips. I’m guessing about that. If you are close to San Fernando, you could go out and visit him and maybe bring your dog and see if they get along. I’m delighted you are interested. He is such a good boy and deserves a home. Let me know if there is anything else I can tell you about him. My phone number is 704-488-8143

  • gayla - Blackie was brought out of the kennel for me to photograph. He is very mellow and timid and loves to be next to someone. He enjoys it when someone pets his head and scratches behind his ears.

  • Isabella - I hope Blackie will be in a loving home soon!

  • mommy - Poor ting

Jazmine | Headshot Photography | Ala Moana, Hawaii

Here are a few pics from a headshot photography session I did last weekend in Honolulu for Jazmine. I am offering a limited offer for any photography session (portrait, headshot, maternity, family, product, engagement, pet, corporate or newborn sessions) for $150, where 100% goes to Life Rolls On for the They Will Surf Again event on 4/30/11. This headshot session was for a darling little 10 year old named Jazmine. Her sweet and adorable personality made me wanna squeeze her because  she was so cute. Instead, we talked about her favorite person in the whole wide world…Justin Bieber!  The photos are headshot style and not my typical portraiture, so they have a little different feel to them and will be used to submit to  local modeling and talent agents in Hawaii.:-)We finished off at Ala Moana beach park where we had a little fun in the sand and grabbed a few pics with mom.

I have a few slots available if anyone is interested, let me know. It’s for a great cause and you can see the details by clicking here.

Walker Levi Katz | Newborn Photography | Beverly Hills, CA

Newborn photography can be tricky at times, but can make for some awesome photos. I love children, so photographing them when they first enter this world is amazing. Little Walker is only 10 days old in these photos and when I first arrived at his Beverly Hills home , I was greeted by his parents Austin and Alli and his four legged brother Cooper. Before Alli gave birth to Walker, Cooper was the only “child” and anyone who loves their pets like their children always gets a two thumbs up from me.  Because I knew how much Cooper was apart of their family I was all smiles because I knew I would be able to get Cooper with his newly arrived baby brother Walker. Dogs + babies = happiness:-)

Take a peek at this newborn photography session below…

Giving back. Support Life Rolls On

Last year I was blessed to find out about an amazing organization called LIFE ROLLS ON. I found out about them when my niece Maile participated in breaking the world record for most wheelchairs in a moving line at the Los Angeles Dodger Stadium. You can see that post by clicking here. It was that day that I learned about a program called They Will Surf Again, which is a quality of life event that empowers individuals with spinal cord injuries to enjoy the freedom and mobility of catching a wave through the assistance of adaptive equipment and teams of dedicated volunteers.

I did in fact participate in my first They Will Surf Again event last September in La Jolla, CA.  It was a magical day and I can not express the feeling of gratitude and happiness I got from watching my little 3 year old niece surf and all the others as well. It wasn’t just about Maile. It was about helping those that are less fortunate than myself.  The look on their faces was worth more than anything I could ever buy and has permanently given my soul something to smile about. You can see that post by clicking here.

I have been very busy assisting in bringing They Will Surf Again to Hawaii. In fact the last couple months have been very LROish, with daily faxes, emails and phone calls. I am happy to say they are officially coming to Hawaii on April 30th, 2011 and will be held at White Plains Beach in Ewa Beach, Hi. Hollah people. This was a challenge, but it was done!  We will be having a fundraiser on the night before; Friday, April, 29th, 2011 to help raise money so LRO can continue these type of programs at no cost to participants. Stay tuned for details. It is for this reason I am offering an exclusive offer for all my Hawaii clients ONLY. Drum roll…………………..

$150.00 for any engagement, portrait, headshot, fashion, maternity, family or pet photo session from now until 4/30/2011.   And, the best part is 100% will be donated to Life Rolls On. Yes, 100%!!!!  In theory, you are donating to an outstanding organization and I will take your photographs free of charge as a thank you. This is my way of giving back. I am limited the amount of people I can extend this offer to, so if you are interested, please get on the list by clicking here. I am so excited about this. This is a first and I have never offered such a special, but this is for an amazing organization. It is on a first come, first serve basis and there are only LIMITED SPACES AVAILABLE. So, get on the list now by clicking here.

I’m also seeking volunteers who want to participate in helping for the first LRO They Will Surf Again in Hawaii. I am currently seeking volunteers to assist in the water and on land on the day of the event. I am also looking for help in collecting donations of water, food and raffle items. It is only through the generosity of friends and organizations that Life Rolls On is able to provide this program at no-cost to participants. Please let everyone you know about this event. We want to get 35 surfers (those in wheelchairs) and about 90 volunteers. :-) For more info go to www.LifeRollsOn.org/TWSAsignup or click here.

You will see the official flyer below. The little girl surfing is my 3 year old niece Maile at last years TWSA in LaJolla, CA. I’m excited to shoot this event again in April in Hawaii! Please join me in the support of Life Rolls On!
