An ocean in my house

A few weeks ago, I decided it was time for another salt water fish tank. Although, this one was going to be a reef tank, which means less fish and more corals and more COLOR!. I was always loved the look of a reef tank and how serene and peaceful it is. The colors are oh so pretty and it’s just beautiful to look at. It is much more peaceful, so that means no lion fish or humu trigger fish in this one! It took a while to decide on the setup and tank I wanted, but once I finally decided to go ahead and get it for the house, Project Ocean was officially on. I bought the new RED SEA tank, stand, water, live sand, live rock and was ready for the project. My nephew Chris drove up from San Diego to help me with the assembly and putting everything together.  Just LOVE him!

The tank has everything built in and is a pretty sweet setup, (once it’s up and running). After a few hours of assembly, we were finally able to fill up the tank. It started with the live rock, followed by the live sand and then gallons and gallons of salt water. Once the tank was filled, the water looked so cloudy and murky, you could barely see the live rock! But, within 2 hours the water cleared up and the filters were doing it’s thang. By morning, the water was crystal clear but I still couldn’t add anything to the tank. Instead, I had to patiently wait 5 days before I did my first water test. The results were pretty close to perfect, so I was able to add a couple corals. That was about 2 weeks ago.  I’ve since added about 7 more corals, 2 fish and 1 fire shrimp. Let’s just say I’ve been at all the local fish stores within 30 miles of my home. I’ve met some cool people and made some friends at the same time. The tank is coming along beautifully. Now I have to wait for the live rock to start turning purple….

Here are some pics of the tank.

This was tank progress was done over a 3 hour period. You can see how cloudy the water was at first!

The first day I got to add some corals. It was so exciting to add a couple corals and crabs and snails! Here is the first batch getting ready to go in their new home!
