I was blessed to have my mother come and visit me a couple weeks ago. My mom and I have a very close relationship and things have just blossomed so beautifully over the last year. We have both grown into such a loving and supportive relationship, it’s been awesome. I speak to her daily, yes at least once a day. We always talk in the morning before I head into the office, followed by a nightly phone call and occasional call here and there throughout the day. Thank God for the flat rate long distance now a days! Whether it’s a quick 30 second check in, or a 45 minute recap of the latest news, not a day goes by without hearing my mommy’s voice. I realize how fortunate I am and cherish all the time I have with her. While I can’t see her everyday, hearing her voice and knowing she is just a phone call away makes my heart smile. I love her dearly.
While she came with a TON of food for me, including some fresh Moloka’i bread and lilikoi butter (mmmm), the best thing was just spending some quality time with her. Some of you might’ve saw my facebook post about the food that came with… so you all know how lucky I was to have a little bit of the islands brought to me. For those that didn’t see the post, here it was:
Gayla Elizabeth Mommy, thank you so much for the Kalbi, mundoo, meat jun, kalua pig, lomi salmon, poi, sushi, fried noodles, sweet sour spareribs, mac salad, kim chee, pineapple, saimin, manapua, pork hash, rice cake, fish cake, shrimp, and all the other goodies you brought up. But, most of all, thank you for bringing you (and Aunty Snooky!) I miss you and love you so much!
While most of what she brought was on my contraband food list, I had to bend the rules and consume most of it since I don’t have access to those local foods. I convinced myself I could splurge for a bit and just make it up at the gym.
I have been eating lots of pineapples lately and asked her to bring me some from beautiful Hawaii. She brought me TWO fresh cases of the sweetest pineapple, how awesome is she!!! OMG, it was so sweet. I did share a few with neighbors and my brother, but most of it was consumed by myself.
. My house smelt so good with the fresh pineapple scent filling the house. Ahhh, it was heavenly. I did manage to take a few pics of the pineapples spread across my kitchen counter, but the pics don’t even do it justice. They were just so delicious and sweet. I did have one request and that was my mom’s famous hawaiian sweet/sour spareribs and homemade mac salad.
It was great to have the aloha and the food, but most importantly it was wonderful to have my mom with me (and Aunty Snooky).
